Rs.2.78bn damage caused by flood in Fata/FR areas: FDMA

PESHAWAR, Aug 26 (INP): As the flash-flood played havoc in the entire country, FATA also suffered severe losses where at least 86 persons were killed and 77 sustained injuries.

“Total cost of damaged caused by flash-flood was estimated as Rs 2.78 billion in seven tribal areas and six FR areas,” spokesman of Fata Disaster Management Authority (FDMA) said while talking to private TV channel here at Peshawar on Thursday.

Spokesman said that some 4,614 houses were damaged partially and 637 houses were completely washed away by the flash-flood.

According to figures issued by FDMA, at least 7724 acres of irrigated land and standing crops on it, 980 safety dykes, 155 connecting bridges, three hospitals, 2030 kilometers roads, 27 educational institutions, 64 irrigation schemes and 103 water supplying schemes were washed away by the gushing waves of the flash-flood.

FDMA spokesman said that initial figures of damages caused by the deadly flood in seven tribal areas and six FR areas was recorded and further we were collecting figures of the far-flung tribal areas which will soon be made public.
