DARGAI, Sep 17: A renowned journalist and primary school teacher Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Siddiqui was shot to death by unknown miscreants here at Dargai Bazar on Friday.

Sources said that Mujeeb-ur-rehman was returning from Dargai Bazar to home when he was ambushed by unknown miscreants, injuring him at the spot. The locals rushed to the spot after hearing fire shots and shifted the injured to Dargai Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Mujeeb-ur-Rehman, who hailed from tehsil Dargai, was working as a local journalist for the last twenty years with various local and regional newspapers and was also a primary school teacher.
Siddiqui was an active member of Dargai Press Club and had also served as finance secretary of the press club.

Members of Dargai Press Club headed by President Zahir Shah held a protest demonstration to condemn the cold-blooded killing of Siddiqi and demanded the government to take stern action against those involved in the killing of prominent journalist.

They also blocked the GT road and main Highway for all kind of traffic to exert pressure on the government and further warned the government to carry out demonstrations if the culprits were not immediately put behind the bars. They were carrying play cards inscribed with slogans condemning the cold-blooded murder of Siddiqui.

Protestors also demanded the government to provide security to the journalists working in the far-flung and terror-torn tribal areas.

However, no arrest was yet made in this regard.
