SIALKOT, Aug 22 : Interior Minister Rehman Malik said on Sunday that the culprits responsible of double murder of two brothers in Sialkot will be punished at the same place where they committed the crime.

“Local citizens will not be allowed to create their own justice system,” Malik said to the media persons while visiting the family of the deceased brothers for condolences.

He also added that a change is being proposed to increase punishment for ignorance on the part of police from two years to ten years.

Rehman Malik said that police have played a key role in the double murder and pledged that all those cops involved in the gruesome murder of the two brothers would be awarded exemplary punishment. He said there is no difference of opinion on this between the federal and provincial governments.

“It was a negligence on the part of Police,” Interior Minister said and termed the incident as ‘national tragedy’ and asked the media not to exaggerate the incident as it would earn bad name for country.

Malik said that the culprits will be punished without giving consideration to any political pressure or motive. He maintained that the names of those behind this crime would be enlisted into Exit Control List (ECL) and urged the people of Sialkot to testify in the case.

The Interior Minister assured that the eyewitnesses of the killing would be given sufficient security and added that some ten accused have been held so far including police officials. He warned that a ten-year sentence would be awarded to those keeping illicit arms.

Governor Punjab Salman Taseer also accompanied the interior minister and offered condolences with the bereaved family in Sialkot.

Talking to media, Taseer condemned the incident, and added that the killers are not human being. However, he refrained from pinning allegations on anyone, saying that the truth would come out after investigations.

Both, Governor Punjab Salman Taseer and Interior Minister Rehman Malik lauded the steps taken by the Chief Justice of Pakistan in the case and said that it would leave good impression in the mind of general public regarding judicial system in the country.
