Rehman Malik vows to recheck all arms-licenses in Karachi

KARACHI, Aug 11: Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Wednesday said that all the arms-licenses issued by the government will be re-checked and those failed to undergo the process will loose their licences and arms will be confiscated.

Talking to media persons here at Karachi Airport, he said that comprehensive plan was envisaged for security during Ramazan and there is no threat of terrorist activities during the holy month, but security will remain alert.

The minister said that intelligence agencies have information that people are keeping upto 50 weapons on a single license and therefore it is required to recheck them.

Commenting on the law and order situation in the mega city, he said that Karachi is country’s business hub and thousands of people from all parts of the country have relatives here and those creating law and order in the city would be dealt with iron hands.

Responding to a question regarding progress in investigation of assassinated leader of MQM, he said the law enforcement agencies were investigating the incident and soon the investigations will be made public.

He insisted upon all the coalition partners to cooperate the government in establishing environment of peace in the city.
