ISLAMABAD, June 07: Criticizing the role of media on publishing and airing reports about the incident of Kohistan regarding the killing of five women, Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) spokesman Eshanullah Ehsan on Thursday said that such incidents would be reported in future because of media’s negative role in propagating secularism and discouraging implementation of Shariah in the country.
According a pamphlet distributed by TTP to various media groups a copy of which is available with INP, the TTP spokesman urged the Ulema to abstain from taking part in the talk shows over such issues. Ehsan also directed Ulema to abstain from giving decrees in such cases because media select the parts of decrees which suit them and criticize those parts of decrees which go against their interest.
He said when the incident of Kohistan was reported in the media, various media channels exploited the issue to their best to defame Islam, especially the role of Mishal and Diva Radio channels was very anti-Islamic, adding that when media wanted to exploit the issue then it contacted the Ulema to seek religious aspect of punishment for the five women and two youngsters whose video of dance was aired several times.
“When Ulema gave edict against the decision of the Jirga which had sentenced the two youngmen and five girls to death, saying that decision of the Jirga was un-Islamic and also condemned the killing of women and men then media exploited the issue and propagated that dance of male and female in Islam is not crime,” the TTP spokesman said. Ehsan criticized the role of both US-sponsored radio channels, saying that the country would face more humiliation as such media channels were propagating for spreading of democratic norms and secularism in the country and were also active to defame Islam including implementation of Shariah in the country which is the only way out to progress for the Muslim.
He said that whenever Jirga give any decree in the favor of secularism then media never stepped backward to praise Jirga and when Jirga give decree against secularism in which interest of media get hurt then media spread negative propaganda against the same Jirga.
Similarly, when Taliban implement Shariah and dismiss Jirga system then media criticize the role of Taliban, Ehsan said. He urged the masses to wake up against the negative role of media and also play their role through Jihad against the spread of propaganda against Islam and Muslims. Ehsan warned media channels to abstain from defamation of Islam and vowed to deal with iron hand the media channels propagating against Islam.
