Malik meets Altaf, discusses political, law & order situation

LONDON, Nov 03 : Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Wednesday held one-on-one long meeting with Chief of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Altaf Hussain and discussed the prevailing situation in the country especially the law and order situation in Karachi.
On this occasion, Rehman Malik conveyed good-will message of Prime Minister Gilani to MQM Chief and informed him regarding the steps taken by the government against criminals in the mega city especially against those involved in the incident of Shershah. He also apprised the MQM chief of details of recently concluded Pak-US Strategic Dialogue.
During the meeting which was later on attended by members of MQM Rabita Committee, Altaf Hussain said that continuous price hike of daily used commodities, petroleum prices, prolonged load shedding of gas and electricity and other such problems were adding sufferings of the people.
Expressing grave concerns over difficulties of the people at large, Altaf Hussain asked Interior Minister that people were living in miserable condition and the government should initiate immediate measures to provide relief to the poor masses.
Altaf Hussain called for across the board operation against land-mafia, extortionists, drug-mafia and other criminals to achieve lasting peace in Karachi saying that the victims of Shershah Market should be given justice on war-footing.
On the occasion, members of MQM Rabita Committee once again presented their reservation before the Interior Minister and expressed dissatisfaction over time and again failure of the government to meet the reservations of the Committee presented earlier.
Rehman Malik informed the MQM leaders that all their reservations will be addressed and all the stakeholders will work jointly for the betterment of the masses and to strengthen democracy in the country.
“Mutually all of us will steer the country out of alarming difficulties,” Malik said.
The Interior Minister also conveyed condolences on behalf of the President Asif Ali Zardari over murder of Imran Farooq and assured help and cooperation on the part of government for arrangements of burial of Imran Farooq.
